The Minister of Industry. Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga has said that the micro small and medium economy is a sector that drives Nigeria’s economy.

Speaking on Thursday at the Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN) Award ceremony at the LCCI Exhibition centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Aganga said, “the federal Government inaugurated a council for SMEs today in Abuja,because the small business enterprise is a key sector in developing the economy.”

He also appreciated the industry correspondence for reporting the Ministry constructively “the ministry was almost there four years ago,but today everyone talk about the ministry of trade and investment,all thanks to the industry correspondents.”

Aganga further said that the media has a major role to play in moving the economy of the country forward,adding that the media as a fourth estate of the realm is the most powerful of the other three arms of Government.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Adesegun Adekoya who was representing the Minister of Agriculture, He said that the agricultural sector has improved within the last four years,the ministry has help to improve the ways which farmers operate.

“We know that Government policy are important to change things,it is easy for farmers to get fertilizers through phones” Oyekoya says “What the farmers have today has been replaced by quality seed,we have growth enhancing scheme,which is helping the farmers. The ministry is helping farmers with agro chemical, 50 percent subsidy.”

President of Naccima Alhaji Muhammed Badaru also stated at the ceremony that the Government is always partnering with the private sector.

“There is nothing the Government do this days without the involvement of the private sector.” Badaru said.
